Gemstones are minerals that can be faceted and polished to be used for making different types of jewellery and ornaments. Gemstones are chosen for making jewellery because of their durability and beauty. There are a huge variety of gemstones in different shades and colours and each one has its own charm, qualifications and price.

The natural beauty of a gemstone can be revealed by cut and there are 2 general kinds of cut: cabochons and facets. The cabochon cut has a rounded smooth surface but faceting is the process of cutting a gemstone to increase its beauty and make it reflect the light.
